They only had the 2020 in germany which is the prestige, the others differ in specs, tone and probably the neck finish too. They were originally made over in Korea, but they moved over to Indonesia later during the years. For 14 years the RG has reigned supreme as the king of heavy rock guitars, despite the constant revolutions in music that deposed less powerful pretenders. This guitar is a shredders dream To start with, the hardware is great quality, tune lock thing is great (for guitarists like me, see. The exact same guitar was at the store new for 770.00.
I remember it wasn't cheap though, else I probably would have bought it, but I found a better deal on another guitar. The RGT-42 is part of the 'budget' line that Ibanez has. I bought this guitar used at the local Long and Mcquade store for 500.00 Canadian plus tax. It was originally flat black and is painted gloss black. Neck is a Wizard II 5 piece maple/walnut with a Rosewood fretboard and shark tooth inlays.
it's still damn smooth but that RGT I played was like running a hot knife through butter. It has true neck through with mahogany wings and string through the body. The RGT seemed to have a smoother neck then my own RG though that has been played in for years and its a real player. Why Because when you want pickups that cut through the room, the RG rules. For 14 years the RG has reigned supreme as the king of heavy rock guitars, despite the constant revolutions in music that deposed less powerful pretenders to the thrown. but the 2020 did not have a finished neck, the wood reminded me of my ibanez sr limited edition prestige bass, same smooth feel on the neck (it's also unfinished on my bass and also bubinga.) Ibanez RGT42 RG Electric Guitar (Neck-Through) 2 humbuckers. The coloured versions like the 3020 and RGT-3020 QMSPB might have a finished neck to match the body colour. it has an all natural finish (so does the neck, it's NOT finished. and I would definetly prefer it above a regular RG. the RGT's sustain should be better, didn't notice too much of a difference to a bolt-on but the way you can reach up the high frets is great! (as in, you don't have the bolt-on system where the body gets in the way, my RG doesn't have an AAJ yet.) still smooth as hell and I noticed it was a lot lighter then my '89 RG.
Huh? the RGT2020SOL I played didn't have a glossed/painted over neck!! as for the finish, the natural finish is just a different look, but it's still glossed over and stuff so it pretty much feels the same as a painted one. so it should feel very much like a bolt on version. It's still made to be shaped in the wizard style.
